Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a medium skillet over medium heat until bubbly and fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and stir continuously for about 30 seconds until smooth and bubbly.
  3. Gradually pour in 1 cup of lager beer while stirring to prevent lumps, followed by ½ cup of whole milk. Stir until combined and bring to simmer.
  4. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until thickened, about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Incorporate 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  6. Remove from heat and gradually stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
