- Press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture, about 15 minutes. Slice into half-inch thick rectangles.
- In a dish, mix flour with salt and pepper. Dredge tofu in flour, dip in water or plant-based milk, then roll in panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C). Test with panko; it should sizzle.
- Fry the coated tofu pieces in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Remove from oil using a slotted spatula and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
