Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of cold, unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar blend to form a crumbly dough.
  5. Press approximately two-thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of your prepared baking pan.
  6. In a large bowl, toss 4-5 cups of sliced Granny Smith apples with ½ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.
  7. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust in the baking dish.
  8. Crumble the reserved dough over the apple layer evenly.
  9. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
