Step-by-Step Instructions for Irish Coffee
  1. Preheat two coffee mugs with hot water, filling halfway for about 2–3 minutes, then discard the water.
  2. Spoon 1 teaspoon of light brown sugar into each mug.
  3. Brew fresh coffee (5–6 ounces per mug) and pour it over the sugar, stirring for 10–15 seconds.
  4. Add 2 ounces of Irish whiskey into each mug and stir for another 10 seconds.
  5. Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Dollop whipped cream on top of the coffee and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
