  • 1 large Egg Replace with a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed + 3 tbsp water) for vegan.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic may be used (1 clove = 1/4 tsp powder).
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder Substitute fresh onion if desired.
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano Italian seasoning works well for a mixed herb profile.
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust according to taste preferences.
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Adjust according to taste preferences.
  • 4 oz Mozzarella Cheese Use cheddar for a sharper twist.
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil Vegetable oil or butter can be used as substitutes.
For the Gravy
  • 2 tbsp Butter Plant-based butter can be used for dairy-free.
  • 1 large Onion Shallots can be substituted for a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced) Use fresh or minced according to preference.
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Use vegetable broth for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup Guinness Stout Dark lager or non-alcoholic stout can also be used.
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour Opt for cornstarch as a gluten-free thickener if desired.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce Use a vegan sauce for dietary needs.
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley For garnish.

Method
 

Steps to Prepare
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare an ovenproof skillet.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Take a portion of the meat mixture, flatten it, and place a cube of mozzarella in the center. Shape it into a ball enclosing the cheese.
  4. Heat olive oil in the skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes; set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté chopped onion until translucent and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the onion and garlic mixture, stirring for about 2 minutes to form a roux.
  8. Gradually pour in beef broth and Guinness while stirring to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer.
  9. Add Worcestershire sauce and return the meatballs to the skillet, coating them in gravy.
  10. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  11. Let the skillet rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
