Method

  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with both sugars and vanilla extract until light and airy.

  5. Slowly mix in the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined—avoid overworking the dough.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate morsels and nuts if using.
