Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add fresh egg whites to the mixing bowl and beat on medium speed until soft peaks form, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar and cream of tartar while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold in vanilla extract, then pipe small dollops onto the lined baking sheet forming ghost shapes.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours until dry to the touch.
  6. Allow to cool inside the oven for about 30 minutes, then decorate with melted chocolate or chocolate chips.
  7. Serve the meringues on a platter with whipped cream if desired.
