Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your 9-inch round cake pan with unsalted butter and lightly dust with flour.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until evenly blended.
- In another mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup of unsalted butter and the remaining granulated sugar for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add 3 large eggs, ½ cup of milk, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, ½ cup of fresh orange juice, and the zest from one orange to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, blending until just combined. The batter should look moist and smooth.
- Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the cake with cream cheese frosting, spreading an even layer over the top and sides.
