Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your 9-inch round cake pan with unsalted butter and lightly dust with flour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until evenly blended.
  3. In another mixing bowl, cream together ½ cup of unsalted butter and the remaining granulated sugar for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add 3 large eggs, ½ cup of milk, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, ½ cup of fresh orange juice, and the zest from one orange to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, blending until just combined. The batter should look moist and smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
