For the Skillet Base
  • 2 tablespoons Butter preferably Irish
  • 1 medium Diced Yellow Onion
  • 4 cups Shredded Green Cabbage
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt adjust to taste
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced) fresh preferred
  • 900 grams Frozen Hash Browns or freshly grated potatoes
For the Cheesy Goodness
  • 1.5 cups Shredded Irish Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Green Onions can be replaced with chives or omitted

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter, preferably Irish.
  3. Add in the diced yellow onion. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
  4. Next, add the shredded green cabbage and a pinch of sea salt. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until softened and slightly golden.
  5. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, mix in the frozen hash browns and 1½ cups shredded Irish cheddar cheese until combined.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  8. After baking, sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top and return to the oven for 4-5 minutes until bubbly.
  9. Garnish with freshly chopped green onions before serving warm.
