  2. Cook breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes until browned and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder, whisking to break up clumps.
  4. Add buttermilk to the flour mixture, stirring gently until a sticky dough forms.
  5. Fold in cooked sausage and cheddar cheese evenly into the dough.
  6. Pour melted butter into prepared baking dish, then spread the biscuit dough over it and cut into 9 squares.
