- Cook 1 pound of lean ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6-8 minutes until fully browned. Drain excess grease.
- In a stock pot, combine the cooked beef with canned diced tomatoes, diced Roma tomatoes, brown sugar, onion powder, chili seasoning, tomato paste, ground cumin, chili powder, black beans, and pinto beans. Stir, bring to a boil, then reduce to low and simmer for 1 hour.
- Shape remaining ground beef into four equal patties, seasoning each with salt and pepper.
- Preheat your grill over medium heat. Grill the patties for about 7 minutes per side, adding a slice of American cheese on top in the last minute.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a cheese-covered patty on the bottom half of each bun, add chili, queso dip, and crispy onion strings, then top with the other half of the bun.
