Step-By-Step Instructions
  1. In a stand mixer, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 packet of instant yeast, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Add 1 cup of warm milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30-60 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  3. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10-12 inches long, then cut it into 1-2 inch bite-sized pieces.
  4. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water and ½ cup of baking soda to a rolling boil. Carefully drop each pretzel bite into the boiling water one at a time and let them boil for 30 seconds.
  5. Whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of water for the egg wash. Brush the mixture generously on each pretzel bite, then sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
