- Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes and chili flakes, allowing to simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add drained pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat with sauce. Gradually add reserved pasta water until the sauce is silky.
- Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese until melted.
- Plate pasta and top with fresh basil leaves and optional chili flakes.
