For the Burger
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Can substitute with olive oil for a lighter option.
  • 8 ounces Sliced Mushrooms (Cremini or Baby Bella) Feel free to swap with portobello or shiitake.
  • 1 small Onion (sliced) Yellow onions are preferred for their mildness.
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced) Garlic powder can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Soy sauce can be a flavorful alternative.
  • to taste Salt and Pepper Use sea salt for increased flavor.
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (80/20 blend) Leaner beef can be used, but will yield drier patties.

  • 4 slices Swiss Cheese Gruyère can be an option for a bolder taste.
  • 4 pieces Hamburger Buns (brioche or potato recommended) Whole grain or gluten-free options work too.

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • grill
  • mixing bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 8 ounces of sliced cremini mushrooms and 1 small sliced onion; sauté for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, cooking for an additional minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef (80/20 blend) with 1 tablespoon of steak seasoning and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined. Form into 4 patties slightly larger than your burger buns.
  3. Preheat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for 3-5 minutes on each side, flipping once they develop a nice sear. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking, covering with a lid to melt.
  4. Brush the cut sides of 4 brioche hamburger buns with melted butter or olive oil. Toast them cut-side down on a separate skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Mushroom Swiss Burger by placing a cheesy patty on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top generously with the sautéed mushroom and onion mixture, add any extra toppings, and finish with the top bun.
  6. Serve the Mushroom Swiss Burger immediately while hot for the best flavor. Pair with sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.

Notes

Allow the beef to reach room temperature before cooking for better flavor. Avoid over-mixing the beef to maintain tenderness. Use a meat thermometer for desired doneness at 160°F for medium-well burgers.
