Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Gradually pour in 1 cup of warm water, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 to 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Divide the dough into two equal portions and place them in separate bowls. Add red food coloring to one portion and black coloring to the other, kneading each portion until the colors are evenly distributed.
  4. Roll each colored dough portion into long strips, about 1 inch thick. Carefully twist the red and black strips together, forming a beautiful spiral loaf.
  5. Place the twisted loaf into a greased mixing bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen, transfer the loaf to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the baked Vampire Bread and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
